How to use pheromones in pest control

The greatest motivation for studying pheromones is due to their Iranian Pistachio application in pest control management; One of the most important uses of pheromones is tracking, which can be used to determine the time of emergence of insects, how to increase the population of the insect and its presence or absence.

 

This action is possible by using pheromone traps (Izadi and Sami, 2010). The purpose of tracking is to detect and monitor pest populations using pheromones. Based on this, the time of emergence and the process of population density of adult insects are evaluated. In this way, insecticides can be used to control the pest during egg hatching and before the larvae penetrate into the host tissues (Sami et al., 2005).

Currently, pheromones are used in three ways in pest management (Izadi and Sami, 2010):

 Absorption and destruction by mass hunting or mass trapping

Trapping and killing
