What is gum disease or black pistachio juice?
Among pistachio diseases in Iran, crown and root rot caused by different Iranian Pistachio species of Phytophthora fungus causes severe damage in infected orchards and therefore is of particular importance.
Angomek or pistachio gum disease in Iran was first reported in 1339 from Kerman province. In 1969, Mostofipour isolated a species of Phytophthora fungus from the crown and roots of pistachio trees in Qazvin for the first time and proved its pathogenicity in a greenhouse. This species was P.citrophthora.
Due to the significant damage of the disease in some pistachio growing areas of the country and the need to get acquainted with how to manage it, in this article we have tried to provide the necessary information about this disease, symptoms and how to prevent and manage it to pistachio growers.
